Intact Roman Cargo Emerges from Swiss Lake After 2,000 Years
Divers diving below Lake Neuchâtel recovered more than 1,000 Roman-era objects dating to 20–50 AD, including kitchenware and weapons, indicating a shipment for about 6,000 legionnaires. A wicker basket preserved organic remains adds to the find, which was excavated in 2025–2026 and is being studied for maker marks and packing methods; a book, documentary, and Laténium Museum exhibition are planned for 2027.
