"New Study Reveals Three Unique Human Brain Areas: Sexual Sensation, Motor Coordination, and Music Processing"

Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have identified cellular and molecular features specific to the human brain that distinguish it from primate relatives and ancient human ancestors. Using single nuclei RNA-sequencing, the study found that humans have a higher proportion of oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs) and increased expression of excitatory neurons related to speech and language. Comparisons with Neanderthals and Denisovans revealed functional differences in genes involved in brain development. The findings provide insights into human brain evolution and shed light on the unique abilities of the human brain.
