NASA's Lucy Spacecraft Nears First Target Asteroid Dinkinesh
NASA's Lucy spacecraft is nearing its first target, the asteroid Dinikinesh, after traveling over 33 million miles in space. The spacecraft has been capturing images of the asteroid using its high-resolution camera and recently underwent a trajectory correction maneuver to ensure an accurate flyby. Lucy will continue its journey to visit eight different asteroids in the coming years, starting with the Trojan asteroids in 2027. The mission is named after the famous Australopithecine fossil, while Dinikinesh is the Ethiopian name for the human-ancestor fossil also known as Lucy.
