"Nikki Haley's New Hampshire Ad Spotlights Otto Warmbier's Mother and Criticizes Trump's North Korea Policy"

Nikki Haley's campaign will air a TV ad in New Hampshire featuring the mother of Otto Warmbier, an American student who died after being detained by North Korea. The ad aims to showcase Haley's foreign policy experience and her support for the Warmbier family. It comes as part of a significant investment in the New Hampshire primary, where Haley seeks to differentiate her stance on North Korea from that of former President Donald Trump, who had exchanged letters with Kim Jong Un and expressed doubt about Kim's involvement in Warmbier's death.

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley's presidential campaign is set to launch a television ad targeting former President Donald Trump's handling of the U.S. relationship with North Korea and the case of hostage Otto Warmbier. The ad features the testimony of Warmbier's mother, criticizing Trump's approach to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and highlighting Haley's support during the negotiation process. This move represents another attack on Trump as Haley aims to gain ground in the New Hampshire primary and positions the race as a two-person contest.

The Plight of US Citizens Detained in North Korea: A Closer Look

Despite tensions and lack of formal diplomatic relations between the US and North Korea, a small but steady stream of Americans have visited the country on organized tours, sometimes with dangerous consequences. The US government has issued a travel warning due to the risk of arrest and long-term detention of US nationals in North Korea. Notable cases include Otto Warmbier, who was arrested in 2016 and sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment with hard labor, suffering a neurological injury and dying shortly after his release; Bruce Byron Lowrance, who was detained in 2018 and later released, possibly as an effort to improve relations with the US; Matthew Miller, who was imprisoned for six years before being released along with another American detainee; Kenneth Bae, who was sentenced to 15 years with hard labor and released following a secret visit by a US official; and Euna Lee and Laura Ling, who were arrested in 2009 and released after a visit by former President Bill Clinton.

Kim Jong Un's Diplomats Face Unwanted Surprise.

Activists placed flowers outside the North Korean mission to the United Nations to remind the world of the horrors of Kim Jong Un's regime and his continued violations of human rights. North Korean escapees gathered in Manhattan to show their solidarity and support for the victims of Kim's torture and execution policies, and especially remember the plight of Otto Warmbier. A campaign is underway to change the street name outside the North Korean U.N. mission in New York City to Otto Warmbier Way. The North Korean Freedom Coalition is trying to save hundreds of North Korean escapees who are being held in China and is calling on the Biden administration and Congress to address their plight with Beijing.
