Romo Plea Deal Includes Mandatory Jail Clause for Future OWI Offenses
Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS analyst Tony Romo accepted a plea deal for operating while intoxicated (OWI) in Wisconsin, which includes a provision mandating jail time if he is convicted of another OWI offense within ten years. The deal, which resolved multiple citations from a July 2026 arrest, requires Romo to install ignition interlock devices, pay a fine, and complete an alcohol assessment. Romo publicly acknowledged that chronic pain from past surgeries led to a dependence on pain medication and subsequently alcohol, while CBS has placed him on indefinite leave and paired J.J. Watt with Jim Nantz for the 2026 NFL season.
