Uganda’s Tooro Kingdom names a newsroom veteran as its next king
A Tooro Kingdom selection committee named Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, a longtime Uganda Broadcasting Corporation news anchor and editor, as crown prince to succeed the late infant-king Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died of cancer at 34. Kijanangoma is expected to be crowned soon in a ceremony that will mark a continuation of Tooro’s royal lineage, though the decision could spark controversy or legal challenges among supporters who favored a different successor. Uganda’s traditional kingdoms are recognized but hold no formal political sovereignty.
