Ward Earns Dodgers Debut as Freeman Heads to Paternity List
The Dodgers promoted 28-year-old Ryan Ward to the majors after Freddie Freeman went on the paternity list, clearing a spot for Ward who is set to debut this weekend against the Rockies. Ward has dominated Triple-A pitching (.264/.347/.511 with 94 homers in 1,867 PA for Oklahoma City over four seasons) but is regarded as a fringe prospect (Pipeline ranks him 19th in the Dodgers’ system; Baseball America does not include him in their top 30). The 26-man roster move had not been finalized at the time of the report, but Ward’s promotion marks the culmination of a long minor-league climb for the veteran 28-year-old.
