"US Treasury Sets Guidelines for Net-Zero Financing, Applauds Philanthropic Commitment"
The U.S. Department of the Treasury has released the Principles for Net-Zero Financing & Investment, which provide guidance for private sector financial institutions that have made net-zero commitments. The principles aim to promote consistency and credibility in implementing these commitments and mobilize more private sector capital to address climate change. Alongside the release of the principles, leading philanthropic organizations have committed $340 million to support research, data availability, and technical resources for financial institutions. Other announcements include the publication of net-zero transition plans by over 50 U.S. financial institutions, the launch of frameworks for measuring emissions in the aluminum and aviation sectors, and the training of financial industry professionals on greenhouse gas accounting methodologies.
