Pico Abandons VR Headset Plans, Shifts Focus to Apple Vision Pro
Pico Interactive, a subsidiary of ByteDance, is reportedly canceling the release of its next consumer-focused standalone VR headset, known as Pico 5, in order to compete with Apple's high-end Vision Pro mixed reality headset. This decision comes after disappointing sales of Pico 4, which was intended to rival Meta Quest 2. The project, codenamed Swan, aims to incorporate cutting-edge technologies, although details and release date are currently unknown. Pico's move follows a recent restructuring to focus more on hardware and core technologies. Competing with Meta in the low-end market has proven challenging, as Meta heavily subsidizes its XR division through advertising revenue.
