Portland Timbers part ways with Phil Neville after disappointing MLS campaign
Portland Timbers have mutually parted ways with head coach Phil Neville after a 3-1 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes left them third from bottom in the Western Conference and eight points off an automatic MLS playoff spot. Neville said results haven’t met the club’s expectations, despite initial optimism and two playoff appearances in his first two seasons. GM Ned Grabavoy noted progress hadn’t been enough and wished him well as the team heads into a World Cup break.
