
Iran Detains Oscar-Nominated Screenwriter Over Protest Letter
Mehdi Mahmoudian, the Oscar-nominated co-screenwriter of Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just An Accident, was arrested in Tehran after signing a public letter condemning Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei amid a crackdown on protests; the letter was signed by 17 activists including Panahi, and calls for accountability and the release of political prisoners, though Iran has not publicly disclosed the charges.
