Arc Raiders 2.0 Rebounds to 185k Players, but Free Trial Inflates Numbers

Embark Studios' extraction shooter Arc Raiders has seen a massive player surge following the release of its 2.0 update, 'Frozen Trail.' Concurrent player counts on Steam peaked at 185,443, marking the highest number since March and far exceeding the game's usual sub-40,000 daily average. Embark Studios Tests PvE Mode in Arc Raiders to Accommodate Non-Competitive Players

Embark Studios is trialing a Player-versus-Environment (PvE) mode in Arc Raiders from October 13 to 20, 2026, to support a growing segment of players who prefer cooperative gameplay over player-versus-player (PvP) combat. The test introduces a toggle allowing users to switch between traditional PvPvE sessions and a safer PvE environment where human players cannot damage each other. While the core mechanics remain similar, loot values are reduced in PvE to balance the lower risk, and certain high-tension events are excluded. Embark cites data showing that 37% of players now engage exclusively in friendly co-op, a group that has grown since launch, while pure PvP players have remained stable at 34%. The studio emphasizes that this is an experimental phase to gather feedback, not a permanent commitment, and warns that removing PvP tension could alter the game’s unique appeal.

Embark Studios Tests PvE Toggle in Arc Raiders to Support Cooperative Play

Embark Studios will test a player-versus-environment (PvE) matchmaking toggle in Arc Raiders from October 13 to 20, 2026. This temporary feature allows players to opt out of player-versus-player (PvP) combat, addressing a growing segment of the community that prefers cooperative gameplay. The test includes reduced loot values and excludes high-tension map conditions, with Embark monitoring economic and matchmaking impacts. While not a guarantee of a permanent mode, the move reflects data showing 37% of players are friendly co-op participants, a figure that has grown since launch. The studio aims to balance player choice with the game’s core extraction shooter design, acknowledging risks to tension and economy.
