Concerns over Misappropriation of International Aid in Jenin as Daily Life Returns and Palestinians Cope with Trauma
Residents of Jenin in the West Bank are expressing concerns that international donations for the city's reconstruction following Israel's recent anti-terror operation will not reach the local population but instead be misappropriated by Palestinian Authority (PA) officials. Millions of dollars have already been pledged by Arab countries, with more expected, but some residents fear the money will be used for other purposes. Calls for transparency and the establishment of a committee to oversee aid spending have been made to prevent corruption. The Jenin refugee camp, heavily damaged during the operation, is one of the poorest and most densely populated areas in the West Bank.
