Square Enix commits to long-term Final Fantasy VII expansion beyond 2027 trilogy
Square Enix has confirmed its intent to treat Final Fantasy VII as a long-term intellectual property rather than a concluded series. During a PAX West 2026 panel, the company stated its goal is to move the franchise beyond its status as a classic and into an 'ever-evolving future.' This strategic shift follows the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final entry in the Remake trilogy, which is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027. The publisher aims to capitalize on the commercial success of the original 1997 PlayStation title through continued spin-offs and new content, despite mixed fan reactions regarding the pacing of the broader Final Fantasy lineup.
