Bridge Collapse at Indonesian Ribbon-Cutting Leaves Several Injured
A newly opened Pongpet Suspension Bridge in Pangandaran, West Java, collapsed during a ribbon-cutting ceremony as more than 50 people crossed, exceeding the bridge’s capacity; a sling rope on the left side detached and caused the bridge to tilt, though the main structure remained intact. No deaths were reported and several locals, including officials, sustained minor injuries; the bridge has been closed for urgent repairs as authorities investigate capacity violations and ignored safety warnings.
