"Goosebumps" Review: Disney+ Delivers Dark and Nostalgic Thrills for R.L. Stine Fans

The new Goosebumps TV series on Disney+ and Hulu takes R.L. Stine's bestselling kid-lit horror and transforms it into a teen soap opera with a supernatural twist. The show follows a group of high-school friends haunted by a vengeful ghost, incorporating elements from Stine's iconic books. While the performances are endearing and there's fun in the repurposing of familiar Goosebumps elements, the adaptation loses some of the simplicity and adolescent thrills that made the books popular. Overall, it's a mediocre translation of Stine's work into a Stranger Things-style streaming melodrama.
