NTSB Data Reveals Amazon Cargo Jet's Braking Systems Failed to Deploy in Fatal Miami Crash
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released preliminary data indicating that the speed brakes and thrust reversers of an Amazon-operated Boeing 767 did not deploy during a fatal landing at Miami International Airport on September 7, 2026. The aircraft, operated by 21 Air, overran the runway by approximately 1,300 feet, striking a van carrying plane-cleaning crews and an SUV, killing five people and injuring five others. While the pilots applied wheel brakes, the lack of deployment for other critical slowing systems remains under investigation. The crash occurred during stormy conditions with strong tailwinds, and the NTSB is currently analyzing flight data and interviewing crew members to determine the cause.
