Unprecedented Gamma-Burst Blinds Satellites and Wows Scientists

Scientists have detected the brightest gamma-ray burst in human history, nicknamed the BOAT, which temporarily blinded Earth's satellites. The burst was initially detected on October 8th, 2022, by Voyager 1 and was so bright that satellites were unable to directly record the real intensity of the emission. Gamma-ray bursts are high energy explosions created when a star dies and black holes are born. The burst traveled about 1.9 billion years and was spotted in the Sagitta constellation. NASA expected a supernova to occur a few weeks later, but have yet to spot one.
