"Chronic Wasting Disease Detected in Wisconsin Shooting Preserve's Deer"
A captive deer at a shooting preserve in northwestern Wisconsin has tested positive for chronic wasting disease, according to state agriculture officials. The 3-year-old doe was transferred from a deer farm in Beaver Dam to the Thundeer Trophy Whitetails preserve. Chronic wasting disease is a fatal neurological disease found in deer, elk, and moose. It has been detected in 31 states and several foreign countries. Wisconsin has seen 41 deer farms and shooting preserves infected with the disease since 2001, with 22 facilities being depopulated.
