SpaceX expands launch capabilities with new launch pad acquisitions.
SpaceX has leased Vandenberg Space Force Base's iconic Space Launch Complex 6 (SLC-6) to launch Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy missions from the launch site. SLC-6 was previously used by United Launch Alliance (ULA) for the launch of its west coast Delta rockets. The site was also set to become the west coast launch site for the Space Shuttle before plans were canceled in the mid-80s. SpaceX already launches Falcon 9 from Vandenberg's SLC-4E, and SLC-6's allocation to SpaceX means both Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy will launch from the newly acquired pad.
