Ukrainian Azov Corps Soldiers Rate UAR-15 and HK416 as Top Frontline Weapons
Five soldiers from the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine, stationed in the Dobropillia sector, provided insights into their preferred small arms and optics. The UAR-15, a domestically produced 5.56mm rifle, is the most common and preferred weapon due to its light weight, reliability, and ease of maintenance. The Heckler & Koch 416 is praised for its gas piston system, which offers superior reliability in wet conditions compared to direct impingement systems. Optics preferences vary, with Holosun cited for cost-effectiveness and Aimpoint for durability, while thermal scopes like the Archer TSA-7 are essential for night operations. Sidearms primarily include the Fort 20 and Glock 17. Soldiers noted that customization is limited to approved accessories like suppressors and red dots, with strict protocols requiring proficiency in standard configurations before modifications are allowed.
