"Winter Storm Alert: Lake-Effect Snow Expected to Blanket Buffalo and Rochester Regions"
The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow warning for parts of western New York, with 1 to 3 feet of snow expected in some areas from Tuesday through Thursday. Rochester may see a few inches of snow, but the heaviest snowfall is expected to impact areas east and northeast of Lakes Erie and Ontario. Lake effect snow develops when cold air passes over relatively mild lakes, creating narrow bands of clouds that produce heavy snowfall. Temperatures in Rochester are predicted to be very cold, with highs in the low 20s and lows ranging between 10 and 18 degrees.
