"Breakthrough Discovery: Scientists Find Potential Solution to Space-Induced Bone Loss"

Scientists from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and the Forsyth Institute have developed a drug, a modified version of NELL-1, that has shown promise in preventing bone loss in mice exposed to microgravity on the International Space Station (ISS). The drug, called BP-NELL-PEG, increased bone mineral density (BMD) in mice and could be a potential solution for astronauts on extended space missions. However, human trials are not yet underway, and the commercialization of NELL-1 is still in the early stages.
