
Curiosity uncovers enigmatic shallow pits on Mars, not footprints
NASA’s Curiosity rover has identified broad, shallow pits in Martian bedrock on Mount Sharp that look unlike anything seen before. The pits aren’t footprints, and researchers are using MAHLI, Mastcam, ChemCam and APX to analyze their layers and composition to understand how they formed and what they reveal about Mars’ history.
