Raleigh-Area Wastewater Spill: 1.1 Million Gallons Released During Construction, Some Reaches Turkey Creek
More than 1.1 million gallons of untreated wastewater spilled near Raleigh-Durham International Airport after a temporary bypass pipe failed during a sewer project; most of the overflow was contained on site, but a contractor inadvertently discharged some into a nearby storm drain that led to Turkey Creek. Cleanup and pipe repairs were completed by Tuesday night, the North Carolina DEQ is monitoring, and the incident remains under investigation.
