Kristersson Resigns as Left-Wing Bloc Secures Slim 3-Seat Majority in Sweden
Sweden’s centre-right Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has resigned after his coalition lost the general election to a left-wing bloc by a narrow margin. The four left-wing parties won 176 seats in the 349-seat Riksdag, defeating the right-wing alliance’s 173 seats by just 50,000 votes. Former Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, whose Social Democrats finished as the largest single party, is now expected to attempt to form a new government. However, coalition negotiations are anticipated to be difficult due to ideological divides within the left-wing bloc, particularly between the socialist Left Party and the liberal Centre Party.
