"Unveiling the End of Planet Formation in a Distant Solar System"
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has observed the end of planet formation in a distant solar system, shedding light on the dispersal of gas and dust in protoplanetary disks around young stars. New research based on JWST observations of the T Tauri star T Cha has revealed the presence of a disk wind, driven by ionization from high-energy photons and magnetic fields, which is dispersing the gas in the star's circumstellar disk. These insights into the evolution of protoplanetary disks and the end stages of planet formation could transform our understanding of how gas clears out of such disks and help us better understand the history and impact on our own solar system.
