NASA Successfully Collects and Displays Asteroid Samples
NASA's Johnson Space Center is facing difficulties in opening the sample canister containing pristine samples from the asteroid collected by the OSIRIS-REx mission. The team has been unable to remove two fasteners on the TAGSAM head, where the bulk of the sample is located, using the current tools. They are now working on developing new approaches to extract the material while ensuring its safety and integrity. Despite the challenges, the mission has already exceeded its goal of collecting 60 grams of debris, with 70.3 grams of rocks and dust recovered. Preliminary analysis has revealed an abundance of carbon and water molecules, providing promising insights into the potential presence of organic matter.
