Court freezes NYC pied-a-terre tax rollout amid homeowner challenge

The court also ordered the city to remove a public list exposing the names, addresses and property values of about 900,000 NYC homeowners, finding potential missteps in how the city identified primary residences and issued notices without individualized determinations. The ruling does not decide the policy’s legality but prevents further action against those on the supplemental roll until proper determinations are made. The city plans to appeal and a merits hearing is scheduled for Aug. 31; officials also extended an exemption deadline as the process continues.
