Bentley’s Supersports trims weight for track-ready luxury

Bentley is producing 500 Supersports, the lightest Bentley in 85 years, by stripping rear seats and using weight-saving aero and chassis tweaks. It rides on a revised 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that makes 657 hp and 590 lb-ft, powers only the rear wheels, and is stabilized by 48V active anti-roll bars, rear-wheel steering, and an electronic limited-slip diff. With a carbon roof, a bold aero kit, and a large rear spoiler, it weighs under 4,407 lb and aims for strong track performance while remaining road-legal. The interior uses carbon bins instead of rear seats, and Bentley plans to build 500 units starting at about $486,200; two cars have been shown at Laguna Seca so far.

Scott McLaughlin, driver for Team Penske, has urged his fellow IndyCar drivers to "relax" and give the new Detroit track a chance, despite criticism over its bumpy and twisty layout. McLaughlin believes the track will improve over time and has compared it to the tight confines of the Nashville street course. He also believes it will provide good opportunities for passing and that it's up to the drivers to race responsibly.
