Abdominal fat distribution linked to faster cellular aging, not depression
A longitudinal analysis of 958 women from the TwinsUK study found that higher waist-to-hip ratio (central fat) predicted faster telomere shortening over about six years, while depression itself did not accelerate telomere loss; antidepressant use showed a small association and genetic risk for depression showed no meaningful link, suggesting abdominal fat distribution may drive cellular aging more than depression.
