UK ATC Glitch Triggers Widespread Flight Delays as Heathrow Leads the Chaos
An hours-long air traffic control outage disrupted UK air travel, causing hundreds of delays and cancellations at Heathrow and across major airports. On Tuesday about 1,300 UK flights were canceled; by Wednesday, dozens of flights were canceled again, nearly all at Heathrow, with Gatwick and other airports affected as airlines reposition crews and aircraft. NATS apologized and said the system is fit for purpose but is working to clear a growing backlog, and UK officials summoned the NATS chief to explain the disruptions, which echo a 2023 outage prompting calls for reform.
