UN Reports Over 200 Afghan Officials and Security Forces Killed in Taliban Takeover
More than 200 former Afghan government officials and security forces have been killed by the Taliban since its takeover of Afghanistan, according to a report by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). The report also highlights at least 800 human rights violations committed by the Taliban, including enforced disappearances, arbitrary arrests, detentions, torture, and threats. The UN has called on the Taliban to uphold their obligations under international human rights law and prevent further violations. The Taliban-led foreign ministry dismissed the findings, denying any reports of human rights abuses.
