"US Launches Airstrikes on Iranian-Backed Militias in Iraq Amid Escalating Tensions"
The U.S. military conducted strikes in Iraq against Iranian-backed militias in retaliation for recent attacks on American forces, including a "larger-scale" attack on a U.S. base. The strikes targeted facilities used by the Kataib Hezbollah militia group and other Iran-affiliated groups, and were in direct response to a series of escalatory attacks against U.S. and coalition personnel in Iraq and Syria. This marks the Pentagon's third set of military operations in just three days in three different countries, following strikes in Somalia and Yemen.
