US views of Canada and UK cool in Trump era, Gallup finds
Gallup’s February 2026 poll shows Americans’ favorable views of Canada and the United Kingdom have cooled, driven largely by Republicans, though overall positivity remains strong. Canada’s Republican favorability fell from 85% to 62%, and Britain’s to 64% (an 18-point drop from a prior low); Independents’ views slipped for Britain (72%) and Canada (80%). Democrats remain highly favorable toward Canada (99? Wait: correct to 95%), Canada at 95% and Britain at 89% (down from 93%). Japan and Italy top the rankings, with Canada tied for third with Denmark. The report notes diplomatic frictions over conflicts and trade; Trump has critiqued UK leadership and base access while Canada pursues new trade ties. Canadians and Britons also show skepticism about the U.S. as a reliable ally. Methodology: Gallup telephone survey of 1,001 U.S. adults, Feb 2–16, 2026; margin of ±4 percentage points.
