US Government Takes Action to Promote Health IT Interoperability, Algorithm Transparency, and AI Risk Management
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has finalized a rule aimed at advancing health IT interoperability and algorithm transparency. The rule includes requirements for transparency in artificial intelligence (AI) and predictive algorithms used in certified health IT, as well as the adoption of the United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) Version 3 as the new baseline standard. It also revises information blocking definitions and exceptions to support information sharing and introduces new reporting metrics for certified health IT. The rule aims to promote responsible AI, improve patient access, and enhance the exchange of electronic health information.
