Phantom Blade Zero: From 15-Year Indie Roots to Tencent-Backed Action Masterpiece
S-Game’s upcoming action RPG, Phantom Blade Zero, marks a massive leap from the studio’s 15-year history of smaller, unpolished titles. Backed by hundreds of millions in funding from Tencent, the game features fast-paced combat distinct from typical Soulslikes, featuring 30 primary weapons and a stamina system that rewards aggressive play. While the world design borrows heavily from FromSoftware’s interconnected maps, the combat mechanics offer a fresh, high-speed experience. However, critics note that the narrative remains dry, with the protagonist’s 66-day life countdown relegated to an optional difficulty mode, potentially undermining the story’s stakes.
