To celebrate the 20th anniversary of ESA's Mars Express, the agency aired the first-ever Mars livestream, featuring images beamed directly from the Visual Monitoring Camera on board the spacecraft. The livestream lasted for an hour, during which viewers could see the Red Planet in as close to real-time as possible. The livestream was made possible by engineers and scientists who worked to ensure that the spacecraft's antenna could continuously face Earth to immediately stream the data home. The Visual Monitoring Camera, nicknamed the 'Mars webcam', is still beaming down images of Mars.
