Microsoft weighs voluntary exits to trim US staff as AI push continues
Microsoft is reportedly offering a voluntary buyout to up to 7% of its US workforce in May, limited to employees at senior director level and below whose combined years of service and age total 70 or more, potentially affecting as many as 8,750 workers. The move follows 2025 layoffs and reflects ongoing heavy investment in AI infrastructure; CNBC reported the plan, and Engadget has asked Microsoft for comment.
