Russia successfully test-launched the new heavy-lift Angara-A5 rocket from its Far Eastern space complex after two previous aborted attempts earlier in the week, with the latest launch being the fourth for the rocket. The Angara-A5 is part of the new Angara family of rockets developed to replace the Soviet-designed Proton rockets and is intended for launching intelligence and communication satellites to geostationary orbits. The Vostochny spaceport, developed as the facility of choice for Angara launches, has seen limited use so far, while the development of the Angara-A-5 has faced repeated delays and is years behind schedule.
