Waitsfield man charged with attempted murder after Barre shooting
A 41-year-old Waitsfield man, Joshua Brackett, was arrested in Waitsfield on charges including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary of an occupied dwelling, reckless endangerment and violating conditions of release after an early Sunday shooting in Barre left a 55-year-old victim in critical but stable condition; the victim was treated at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin before transfer to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. Brackett is jailed without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Barre; investigators say the shooting stemmed from a dispute involving a domestic relationship with a third party, and the victim's name is not released.
