Warner Bros. Restores Lost 1971 Film 'The Devils' for Theatrical Release
Warner Bros. has restored the censored 'Rape of Christ' sequence from Ken Russell's 1971 film 'The Devils' for a one-week U.S. theatrical run starting October 16. The footage, believed lost for decades, was recovered from a decomposing can in a vault and approved by the director before his death. The release marks the first official theatrical showing of the uncensored cut, which explores the weaponization of religion in 17th-century France.
