FBI Issues Warning on 'Phantom Hacker' Scams Targeting Seniors

The FBI has issued a warning about a scam known as "hacker phantoms," where scammers pose as computer technicians and convince victims, mostly seniors, that their financial accounts are at risk. The victims are then tricked into moving their money to supposed safe accounts controlled by the scammers, resulting in the loss of their entire life savings and retirement funds. In the first half of 2023 alone, victims lost over $500 million, with half of them being over 66 years old.
