"Florida: The New Inflation Hotspot in America"
Florida, particularly the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area, has become America's inflation hotspot due to skyrocketing housing costs. The region has the highest inflation rate among metro areas with over 2.5 million residents, at 9% for the 12 months ending in April, more than double the national average. The Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro also has a high inflation rate at 7.3%. The population growth in Florida, driven by domestic migration, has contributed to the housing cost surge. Rising interest rates, limited housing stock, and expensive property insurance have further exacerbated the issue. In contrast, Minneapolis has the lowest inflation rate among major cities, at 1.8% in May, attributed to factors such as earlier peak in shelter costs and increased multifamily construction. Atlanta, which was previously an inflation hotspot, has seen a decline in inflation as housing market supply and demand have balanced out.
