Chevron Halts Gaza Strip Natural Gas Platform Operations

Chevron has temporarily shut down operations at its Tamar natural gas platform, located about 12 miles from the Gaza Strip, following instructions from Israel's Ministry of Energy. This is not the first time operations have been suspended due to unrest, with Chevron previously instructed to shut down Tamar during fighting in 2021. The company's priority is the safety of personnel, communities, the environment, and facilities. Natural gas customers will still be served by Chevron's Leviathan gas platform. The eastern Mediterranean's potential as an energy center may be impacted by the ongoing conflict, despite Israel's reliance on natural gas for about 70% of its electricity generation.
