Belgium Implements Summer Ban on Ozempic for Weight Loss

Belgium has temporarily banned the use of Novo Nordisk's diabetes drug Ozempic as a weight loss treatment due to a shortage of the medicine. The drug, which is approved for treating Type 2 diabetes, has been increasingly prescribed off-label for weight loss. The ban comes as a result of the drug's limited availability, and it is expected to last until June 2024. In Britain, doctors and prescribers have also been ordered to stop prescribing Ozempic to non-diabetic patients and to refrain from starting new diabetic patients on the medicine until the shortage is resolved.
