Oral weight loss drugs show promise in improving heart health and effectiveness, studies find.

Pfizer's oral weight loss drug, danuglipron, has been found to be as effective as and quicker than Novo Nordisk's Ozempic injection, according to a phase two clinical trial. The trial followed 411 adults with Type 2 diabetes who either took the pill twice a day or a placebo. Patients who took a 120-milligram version of danuglipron lost around 10 pounds over the course of 16 weeks, compared to 9.9 pounds lost by those who took Ozempic over 30 weeks. Both drugs mimic a hormone produced in the gut called GLP-1, which signals to the brain when a person is full.
