"Uncovering Direct Brain-Dura Connections and Waste Disposal Pathways"

Researchers have discovered direct connections between the brain and its protective covering, the dura mater, challenging the belief that the brain is isolated from its surroundings. These connections may allow waste fluid to leave the brain and expose it to immune cells and signals from the dura. The findings have implications for neural-immune system responses, aging, and diseases like Alzheimer's and multiple sclerosis. The study was a collaboration between Washington University in St. Louis and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
