A new study from the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience suggests that dopamine plays dual roles in learning and motivation. The study found that dopamine may simultaneously impact learning signals and motivation, based on the observed behavior in operant-conditioning rats. The findings could have clinical implications, as current drugs can affect both learning and motivation systems at the same time, which might complicate treatment.
