High-ranking members of the NYPD were part of a 32-member law enforcement delegation attending a counterterrorism and anti-Semitism training near the Gaza Strip when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel. The group, which also included Westchester County officials, had to seek shelter until they were able to evacuate on Sunday. The attack, which occurred on the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, resulted in hundreds of casualties on both sides.
